two

vocabulary

before we continue, a quick check on the words being used to describe the stuff we're dealing with.
so far we only have one type of thing in the void (there are two of them, but they the same type of thing).
the word has been mostly given as 'point', however, it has come to be known that in geometry there is word 'vertex' (pl. 'vertices') which seems to describe the thing that we are describing.

dimension

remember the first vertex created in the void? it had no width, no height - and this is still true.  we went on to create another vertex, and it is also is without width and height, for that is the nature of vertices, they occur at a place without occupying any space. ah! there's an interesting word - 'space' - see what has happened:

now that there are two vertices, something else has come into consciousness - a spatial dimension.

where ever our two vertices may be, there can be seen between them a line...

the line has come into being because of the two points, but it is not limited by them. thus the line is infinite, and both vertices are upon it.

well, maybe you saw it coming, but that took me by surprise.  we created one type of thing, duplicated it - just the same as the first, only separate to it and poof -- a completely different type of thing appeared! perhaps even two things; there is now an infinite line that we can recognise as a spatial dimension, and also there is a finite part of the infinite line that is in-between the two vertices.  there's enough here to keep me thinking for a while...

preamble

there are so many little and big things i should like to disclaim that i shall not actually endeavour to state any of them. rather, it is given that, while much of the ignorance exposed here is just that, there are things that are knowingly being ignored for the sake of narrative.

before the beginning

ok, so before there was anything there was nothing.
hurrah for the amusement that nothing is something, but also dwell on what were are saying: at the start of this story there is only one thing, and that one thing is nothingness. the void. featureless, futureless, void.
this is the backdrop to the cosmos we are about to unfold. we might not come back to this as we investigate manifest forms, but it really is the underlying point - however you choose to express it, everything is linked to everything else, if for no other reason than that all things occur as contrast to the nothing.

first step

so, let's say that the void is consciousness. pure consciousness with nothing but itself to be aware of. let's also step into this consciousness and play at be it.

well, being consciousness is all very well, but there's not much going on. let's create an archetype

the first thing we can put into this void is the point. a singularity in the void. it has no width, no height, no relative position because it is the only thing in the void.
this one point is now all of creation, because it is all that has been created. this is oneness. everything else is possible because this was possible.

duality

what next? another one. another point separate from the first. a second singularity, giving us duality.

maybe the first divided to become two. maybe the second was put there out of the void like the first one was. I don't know if it matters, either way we now have duality in our universe, and with it, something else automatically appears...

universal truth

things that do not change, stuff that just is, universal truth:

  • six circles that have the same radius will fit perfectly around a seventh circle of the same size - try it with round coins of the same value, or matching wine glasses. on the two-dimensional plane, six around one is the way circles work

  • the three angles inside the corners of any triangle will add up to 180 degrees; a straight line. try this with scissors and paper:
    1. cut out a triangle (one snip per edge with a steady hand will give straight sides to start with, but the principle will still work if the sides are wobbly)
    2. tear off one of the corners.
    3. tear apart the other two corners. you now have three bits of paper, each with two cut edges and one ripped edge.
    4. arrange the three pieces so that cut edges are touching and the three original corners meet at a point. two of the cut edges will now have lined up to give a straight line.

that's just two things, but we are getting ahead of ourselves already.
first let us set the scene (and not be shy about it)

this is a quest to bring our consciousness closer to that of the divine.

if we can observe universal truth, and grapple more directly with the unveiled interactions, then maybe we can start to untangle some of the confusion that manifest creations puts before us.

in the next post we shall start by imagining that nothing yet exists in the cosmos, and then set about creation, step by step, as best we might comprehend a possibility of it...
